About Darcy Tate
Hi, I'm Darcy Tate. I am a self taught artist who enjoys recreating the beauty of the wildlife and the outdoors that I have the privlege of being able to enjoy. I spend countless hours every year watching, photographing, and enjoying my subjects in their natural habitat. Most of my research work is done in the northern Nevada backcountry.
I have been drawing all of my life, and just recently got into painting. My first drawings were in pencil then and pen and ink. I then went on to drawing/painting in colored pencil. This medium is ideal for my facination twith detail but is very time comsuming when creating a picture. Colored pencil takes many hours and layers of color to develop the look that I try to achieve in my pencil paintings.
I recently started painting with acrylics. I like this medium for many reasons. I'm still developing my technique with these paints.
I also do a little bit of sculpture in polymer clays, paper maches, epoxy clays, and from time to time some wood sculpture.
Most of my work has to do with North American wildlife and the country that they live in, however I have done a number of pictures of African wildlife, and portraits of both pets and people. These are fun to do from time to time.
I have illustrated for an outdoor magazine in the past and have also illustrated some books such as "The Nevada Wildlife Record Book", "Public Land Mulies", "Elk Hunting the West", and a couple others.
Most of my art is done for the local wildlife charities and conservation groups. However, I do welcome commissions. If you have something in particular that you would like drawn or painted, you can contact me through this website, and I will get back to you. Thank you for taking the time to look at my website.
